Born
in Lancaster,Ohio Randy was exposed to Bluegrass music from
an early age. When his maternal Grandfather passed away and his
old banjo was aquired, the interest became a passion. From that
point on any “leisure time” was spent with the banjo.
Several years later he started learning to play guitar. At the
age
of nineteen he entered the U.S.Air Force. Most of his hitch
was spent at Mountain Home AFB which is about fifty miles east
of Boise, Idaho. After leaving the Air Force he remained in
the Boise
area for the next twenty odd years. Most of the Idaho years were
spent with the Boise based band “Ragged But Right.”
Around 1995 he was a founding member of the Idaho based band “The
Grasshoppers” and toured nationally for about five years.
His main contributions with “The Grasshoppers” were
on the banjo and can be heard on two CD’s that were released
during this time. In February of 2001 he returned to Ohio and
in
the fall of 2003 he was contacted by the Hart Brothers about replacing
the soon to be leaving John Keith. The first formal gig was
at The
Events Center in Hanover, Ohio in early November of 2003. When
asked for his thoughts on being a part of the band Randy said; “I
feel lucky to be a member of what is unquestionably one of
the premier
bands in the area. They’re a great bunch of guys and they
and their families have made me feel very welcome. Randy currently
resides in Junction City, Ohio with his wife Danita and daughter
Carmendi.
